Wetzel Scholarship
The Rev. Dr. Christine M. Wetzel Memorial Scholarship
The Rev. Dr. Christine M. Wetzel Memorial Scholarship was created and funded by members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, Long Island, NY, to enable a religious education professional from a Unitarian Universalist congregation to attend Faith Development Week on Star Island, NH. The Scholarship honors the memory of Rev. Dr. Wetzel, the congregation’s first Minister of Religious Education. Chris served the congregation from 1971 until her retirement in 1992. She died in 2019.
Chris was a regular and enthusiastic participant at the Star Island Religious Education Conference (now known as Faith Development Week). She encouraged religious education teachers and volunteers to attend, as a way to expand their own knowledge and horizons. This Scholarship is intended to extend her legacy.

The recipient...
Will be a religious education professional from a Unitarian Universalist congregation other than the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock.
Will have financial need that would make it unrealistic to be able to attend Faith Development Week without the Scholarship.
Will attend the entire seven-night Faith Development Week conference (except for unforeseen circumstances).
Will share with her/his/their religious education community the essence of the experience at Faith Development Week, including, but not limited to, theme talk and workshop.
The Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Faith Development Week Executive Team.
The Executive Team is grateful for and honored to receive this scholarship created by the Rev. Dr. Christine M. Wetzel Memorial Scholarship Sub-Committee and funded by individuals to honor Chris and support Faith Development Week.
